Romans
The apostle Paul wrote the letter to the Romans. Before his encounter with the risen Christ on the road to Damascus, he was an enemy of Christians. Paul went on to become one of the greatest Christian missionaries of all time! The letter was addressed to Christians in Rome. In the first century, Rome was the center of nearly all that happened in the Mediterranean world. Paul wrote the letter around AD 57 during the rule of Emperor Nero at the height of the Roman Empire. He wrote it just after his Corinthian letters and just before he headed to Jerusalem with the relief fund gathered for the believers there. (See Rom. 15:25–27). Written from the city of Corinth near the end of his third journey about 56 AD. And carried by Phoebe to Rome. (Rom. 15:25, 16:12;) Paul’s main purposes for sending the letter were: (1) missionary, (2) teaching, and (3) pastoral.
